Anz watched as Ika extinguished his joint, and turned back to his work to check on his algorithm for a moment when the captain made his offer. “I have a lot of work to do and I’d really rather….. Not”. Sighing, as he saw the man had already left he contemplated whether it was technically direct insubordination to just ignore the request entirely and continue on with his work. However, in the end, Ika was his commanding officer and thus he had to follow. Turning to a division member Anz gently instructed the young recruit to monitor his work until he returned from his meeting with the captain. That done he released his Shikai sheathed his zanapkuto and left the lab, removing his lab coat and grabbing a small black bag he called his combat kit. Within was all his battle ready inventions as well as a few other miscellaneous objects such as a pad of paper and some pencils.
Arriving at the training field as Ika released a bolt of lighting to destroy his joint, Anz set the kit down on the ground and removed his suit coat and tie, unbuttoning the top two buttons on his blue button down and rolled up his sleeves. Shifting through his bag he took out four small metal cubes sliding them into his pockets a small brown leather sack, which followed the cubes and finally a pair of grey thin metal gloves that he slipped over his hands.
Standing in front of his captain he listened as the man spoke finally saying that he may come when ready. With a nonchalant smile Anz had PATCH run some preliminary data analysis marking Ika’s reiatsu signature, estimating maximum swing length of his sword, as well doing preliminary muscular structure analysis to help Anz to determine the mans fighting style. Stepping back Anz lowered his stance, with his feet pointing perpendicularly and his right foot forward his stance was reminiscent of a boxers stance except he kept his palms open and his weight shifted just slightly onto his back leg.
“While I appreciate your desire to test my combat prowess, Couldn’t our time be better spent perhaps, discussing some of the research designs for the division or funding allocation? … However, if you truly wish to spar it goes against the law of soul society for a subordinate to strike his commanding officer first. Therefore if we must fight I insist the first move be yours”
Technically speaking the law held that he could strike first if ordered to but Ika had used the term if you will, implying a choice in the matter. To be honest Anz was less then thrilled so far with his impression of his new captain for some reason he had envisioned the captain of the 12th division to be a serious, scientifically driven man, with a passion for knowledge and research. Instead the man had shown no interest in the current state of the labs various research projects, broken several safety codes, and had even dragged him away from his work.
